Book Review While Beauty Slept

While Beauty Slept by Elizabeth Blackwell

First off, I would like to share how excited I was to get a tweet response from this author after tweeting how much I was enjoying her book!  I love twitter for this reason!  It is always so exciting to be able to connect with someone you respect or whose work you admire. Okay, on to the review.

While Beauty Slept
A retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, While Beauty Slept gives the reader a chance to delve into a more humanistic and historical side of the tale.  The main character is Elise Darliss, who goes from being a simple farm girl to the trusted servant of the Queen.  Through Elise's trials and tribulations, the reader is exposed to the inner workings of castle and court life as well as that of the royal family.  She forms an extremely close bond with both the Queen and Princess and plays a pivotal role in their lives.  Plenty of romance and intrigue to please those looking for a fun read as well as a detailed description of historical aspects for fans of historical fiction.   For fans of Deborah Harkness’s A Discovery of Witches
